At Kate Sheppard we are committed to providing a high quality caring environment. Care Staff Recruitment Kate Sheppard caregivers and nursing staff are chosen for their qualifications, caring attitude and their dedication to residents' quality of life. Clinical Orientation and Training All staff commencing work at Kate Sheppard undergo an extenive orientation period and staff are mentored through their first three months. A comprehensive in-service training programme helps to ensure that our people stay up to date with new developments in care. Formal training through the ACE training programme (the nationally accepted “Aged Care Education" Training programme) in caregiving is undertaken by the majority of our caregivers which provides a comprehensive guide to providing personal cares.
Our registered and enrolled nursing staff hold first aid training and registered nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Clinical Oversight and Quality At Kate Sheppard, clinical quality is considered paramount. Each clinical care is overseen by an experienced Charge Nurse in each area. Care planning is a strong focus of the charge nurse. Weekly Charge Nurse meetings provide an regular structured environment in which clinical oversight is managed and we monitor residents' care including their nutrition, hydration, safety, mobility and general medical and psychological welbeing. Clinical procedures and processes and oversight is maintained by our Clinical Nurse Manager and Managing Director. As a general practiioner, the Managing Director also provides 24 hour, seven days a week on-call clinical support to our nursing staff. Staffing Levels Our well maintained staffing level indicates a commitment to quality care. At Kate Sheppard our management team ensures that there are sufficient staff to meet your health and personal care needs provided at all times. Staffing levels are set for each area in line with our contract obligations. Because of our hospital complex registered nurses are available on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide cover to all areas, including our rest home. In House Doctor Kate Sheppard has a contracted in-house doctor, Dr Jean Herron who visits twice weekly. A number of other doctors also regularly visit. Allied Health The physical welbeing, mobility and equipment needs of all residents are overseen by our full time physiotherapist. A podiatrist, dietitian and hearing specialist are contracted to provide care as required. ![]() |
