Care Choices

At Kate Sheppard Lifecare we recognise that a resident’s care needs may change over time. By providing a full continuum of care in one complex we cater for those anticipated changing needs.

Independent Living

Within the surrounding Kate Sheppard Gardens village, a range of secure independent living options are available including villas, condominiums and apartments.

DaycareDaycare & Respite Care

Daycare services are available at Lakeside and provide a safe and social environment for those people in the community requiring social interaction on a daily basis.

Transport to and from daycare can be arranged and lunch is supplied. Participants have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities during the day and general oversight of their clinical needs is provided by our onsite clinical teams.

Studio Units

Twelve Studio Units connected to the Riverside Rest Home are available to purchase under Occupation Right Agreements. These spacious one-room studio units with kitchenette and ensuite offer a safe, comfortable and spacious environment in which residents can make their home. A range of services are available and tailored to individual needs ranging from semi independent assisted living through to full rest home care. Separate studio lounge and dining facilities provide a communal living and social environment whilst enabling residents to maintain some independence. Respite Care

Respite care is short term care designed to enable family or carers a break from the full time comitment of care or short term needs for care. Kate Sheppard provides for rest home level Respite Care within our 64 bed Riverside Rest Home.

Respite Care should be booked in advance through our Clinical Manager and is subject to room availability.

When residing in Kate Sheppard under respite arrangements, residents are encouraged to join in and socialise with long term residents.

They are also provided with full rest home cares and clinical supervision. Your doctor or social worker will have information on eligibility and access to respite care funding.

Rest Home Care

Riverside Rest Home Units

Riverside Rest Home is located overlooking Barkers Lane and Lake Kate Sheppard

At Riverside Rest Home our full time Charge Nurse provides excellent clinical oversite to meet the needs of residents. 24 hour registered nursing support is provided from our hospital complex. Enrolled nurses and caregivers make up a dedicated clinical team. Ratios of carers to residents are maintained to meet quality standards and regulations and ensure that high quality care is provided at all times.

Social interaction and a sense of community are encouraged, and residents can also relax in a quieter environment in several more intimate lounges located throughout the facility.

A range of room sizes and prices are available. All rooms have wardrobes and ensuites, with centrally controlled heating to ensure comfort at all times.

A full programme of activities, crafts and outings are provided for residents at Riverside and arevery well attended. Sky TV is available in the common areas and full library services are provided.

Hospital and Palliative Care

Lakeside Facility - opened 2003 by the Rt Hon Helen Clark

Our Lakeside complex is one of Christchurch’s premier facilities complex. Lakeside comprises three separately run wings with 36. 27 and 40 rooms. Each area is overseen by a full time Charge Nurse and 2 registered nurses oversee the facility at night.

Ratios of carers to residents are maintained to meet quality standards and regulations and ensure that high quality care is provided at all times. Physiotherapy services are available onsite.

Each area provides for a mix of residents requiring hospital level care, including older persons, residents under the age of 65 with chronic medical conditions and people with terminal illnesses requiring palliative care.

Garden

Spacious lounges and dining areas are situated in each wing. Smaller more intimate lounges are located at the ends of each wing. The 1st floor lounges feature picture windows looking over the lake and out to the Alps.

Ample soft settees provide several options for seating when visiting. Most rooms come with a lazyboy chair. To ensure a comfortable environment, lounges, corridors and bedrooms are carpeted throughout.

Like all rooms located in the Lakeside complex bedroom proportions are more generous than most ‘standard’ hospital rooms. All have ensuites and built in wardrobes and drawers. Pull out shelves enable a TV to be positioned for optimal viewing.

Manual wheelchairs, hoists, fully electric beds and a host of other equipment is well maintained and modern. Where appropriate, high tech pressure beds and other specialised equipment is supplied to ensure high quality preventive medical care is practiced.

Main meals are prepared in the adjacent kitchen and served in the dining rooms with breakfast served in your room.

A full programme of activities, crafts and outings are provided for residents at Lakeside and is very well attended. Full library services are provided. A range of DVDs is available for resident’s entertainment.
